Pick up in overseas weather down to terrible English summer
August 30th, 2009 | by admin |
The fall of the pound against the euro, the increasing cost of a holiday abroad, more security at the airport, recession and concerns over employment and the prospect of a good summer saw many travellers declaring their intention to remain in this country in an attempt to reduce costs. Spain and Greece were predicted to take the brunt of the stay at home Brit.
Sounds great and the UK travel industry reported record figures staying in this country with hotels full, camp sites busy and the roads full of holidaymakers making their journey to the seaside destinations throughout the Uk. Everything in the Uk travel industry seemed to be rosy with the Brits exchanging sangria and paella for Cornish pasties, beer and cider.
One thing, which is predictable about the English weather, is its unrealiability and all the noises about what a fantastic summer we could expect is already in ruins. The summer has been nothing short of a catastrophy with rain and more rain making this one of the worst summers on record. Campsites have been turned into lakes with flooding widespread in the south and southwest. Whilst temperatures have been decent there is little fun sitting on a beech underneath a steady drizzle or an almighty downpour.
Foul weather drives stay at home Brits to search for cheap holidays abroad as bad weather looks set to continue. Late bookings for August have increased dramatically as Brits seek guaranteed sun. There are still many cheap holidays around and notwithstanding the economic conditions travellers aren’t prepared to risk a holiday downpour. With so many late bookings holidaymakers looking to travel to the airport by car need to book East Midlands airport hotels with parking, Heathrow airport car parks and airport parking Manchester as quickly as possible because as space becomes booked the price at all car parks and hotels will rise.
