Neither of the previous answers got it completely right.

A Pharmacy Technician does not require any schooling at all. The only requirement you will have to meet is an age requirement. Some may hire as early as 16, all will hire you at 18. There is a national certification that you can get that most pharmacies prefer that you have. There is a test that you can take and if you pass it you are a Certified Pharmacy Technician. Most of what you need to know to pass the test will be learned on the job. The pharmacy that I work for offers free classes to help you study for it. Most pharmacies will give you a small raise if you become certified.

A pharmacist must have a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD). This is a 6 year program and as the name suggests, a pharmacist is considered to be a doctor. The mandatory degree used to be the 4 year Bachelor of Pharmacy but this is no longer accepted.
