Pharmacy technician?

Hi, I’m going to be an incoming sophomore in college this semester (majoring in Pre-pharmacy) and I’ve been sort of frustrated applying to different stores (during the summer) that were hiring Pharm. technicians. I feel like I’m not going to be able to have a lot of experience once I graduate from school and apply to pharmacy schools. I even offered to work for experience and I told them I didn’t care about how much they would pay me. Still almost all of them were full with other students and no hours to give. Should I be worried? I just don’t want to doubt anything in my future and I want to remain calm and be determined no matter what. Positive comments would be great.

Please don’t get discouraged. Once you are actually in college you may have more doors opened for you. Especially since you are majoring in pre-pharmacy. You will surely make some contacts and if you are doing well in college THEY may come seeking you!

It sounds like you’ve done all the right things to try and get a job in your field. Just continue your studies and maybe next summer you can get a relevant job. Start applying for jobs early, maybe around May. Good luck.

Stores don’t hire many pharm techs during the summer. Starting around now, they will starting hiring for the fall.

If it’s simply the experience you are searching for,, have you considered some off the trail travels? Such as local hospitals, long term care facilities, even military bases- they have full hospitals & pharm. in many places. And if you are already in college ask your teachers for recomendations – contacts. A lot of instructors double dip & can give you a hand while helping someone else out who might need some extra help.
